Golden Cherry Harvest

June 22, 2012
The golden cherry tree was badly traumatized in a late spring freezing rain. After a spectacular bloom in April with an outstanding fruit set following, the icy storm allowed a bacterial infection to attack the leaves, causing them to wither and fall off. It looked as if I was going to lose the entire tree! I watered it daily and hoped for the best. I was thrilled when new leaves replaced those that died and quite a bit of the fruit actually ripened! These golden cherries are a bit more tart than my reds, but are every bit as beautiful and delicious. They make great pies and dried cherries.
